Dr. Goodall: As for the other, you're talking about a yeti or bigfoot or sasquatch.

Dr. Goodall: Yes, it is and ...

Ira Flatow: Well, in this age of DNA, if you find a hair there might be some cells on it.

Dr. Goodall: Well, there will be and I'm sure that's what they've examined and they don't match up. That's what my little tiny snippet says. They don't match up with DNA cells from known animals, so -- apes.

Ira Flatow: Did you always have this belief that there., that they, that they existed?

Dr. Goodall: Well, I'm a romantic, so I always wanted them to exist. (Chuckles.)

Ira Flatow: Thanks for calling. (To Goodall) Well, how do you go looking for them? I mean, people have been looking, right? It's not like, or has this just been, since we don't really believe they can exist, we really haven't really made a serious search.

In about 1860, Americans John Utz (b. 1824) and Hiram Francis Smith (1829-1893) settle in the Okanogan Valley near Lake Osoyoos. They are the first white residents of the area and although Utz may have preceded Smith, Smith is regarded as the county's First Citizen.

Prior to 1860, the Okanogan Valley was unsettled by whites between the mouth of the Columbia and Lake Osoyoos on the Canadian border. Paths along the river called the Okanogan Trail had been heavily traveled by prospectors and cattlemen en route to gold fields on the Fraser River in British Columbia.

Hiram Francis "Okanogan" Smith was a printer who left the newspaper business to hunt for gold in California in 1849. When prospecting did not pan out, he ran a freight line out of The Dalles, Oregon, serving the northern gold fields and he operated a trading post at Hope and Rock Creek. His travels took him through the Okanogan Valley, which offered mild winters, sufficient rain, and abundant grass.

To legitimize his claim on unsurveyed Indian land, Smith took as his wife a 14-year-old Indian girl named Mary. Smith became an industrious farmer and packed 1,200 young fruit trees onto his property and developed 24 acres of apples and eight acres of peaches, pears, and grapes. Five of the trees were still producing in 1990. He also raised cattle, ran a trading post, and served in the territorial and state legislatures.

Smith and Utz were the only white residents of what would become Okanogan County until 1873.

Seattles Worst snow in History

"For the first three or four days after snow fell, a large and respectable portion of the community were engaged in an attempt at sleigh riding, while others amused themselves throwing snow-balls at every body passing along the streets, including Negroes, Indians, Editors, and members of the Legislature."

For weeks Seattle and Olympia were covered with two feet of snow. Lake Union froze to at least six inches thick. The Overland Press documented minus four degrees on January 17, 1962, and minus three degrees on January 18, 1862. Overland mails from California and Oregon stopped for weeks and floods struck the entire Pacific Coast, particularly California. By the end of January 1962, ice had closed the Columbia and Cowlitz Rivers. The only communication between Puget Sound and California was by ocean steamer and Portland was completely cut off from overland and river transportation. William Bedington, a 50-year-old native of England, died in Steilacoom after being struck in the head by a snowball.

The region did not thaw until March 1862.

Maxim founded an armaments company to produce his machine gun in Crayford, Kent, which later merged with Nordenfeldt and the Vickers Corporation in 1896, becoming 'Vickers, Son & Maxim'. Their updated design, referred to as the Vickers gun after Maxim's resignation from the board in 1911 on his 71st birthday, was the standard British machine gun for many years. With arms sales led by Basil Zaharoff, variants of the Maxim gun were bought and used extensively by both sides during World War I.

In his later years Maxim became profoundly deaf, as his hearing had been damaged by years of exposure to the noise of his guns.

THE LEGAL BATTLE OVER OBAMA'S CITIZENSHIP STILL ALIVE

I'm putting the economic issues in second position this week to cover an important and ongoing election story with tremendous legal consequences to the issue of presidential qualifications. The election's most under-reported story, among many, is the story of Obama's origins in Kenya and the evidence indicating that Obama's subsequent birth certificate from Hawaii was falsified to give him citizen status. There are two court cases pending on the issue, and it seems obvious now that the courts are dragging their feet to evade a ruling until the election is over. The State of Hawaii appeared to be complicit in the forgery when it happened and is now equally reluctant to come forth and certify the bogus copy of a birth certificate. The US government Election Commission has also failed to do its due diligence in certifying Obama's citizenship and right to be a US President. Don't expect this important legal technicality to stop the Obama steamroller.
There exists a major conspiracy of silence.

The notoriously liberal debunking website www.snopes.com dismisses the legal challenges to Obama's citizenship as typical of many "unsuccessful challenges" common to US elections. That's a bit premature to label a current case as "unsuccessful," especially when they don't have the courtesy to air any of the powerful evidence submitted in this legal challenge nor comment on its veracity. This is typical of debunking sites that are propaganda arms of the establishment. They never attempt to answer the tough questions, only the easy straw man arguments.

Dockets.justia.com gives us a summary of the issues in the case: "A Mr. Philip Berg [a Clinton Democrat] presented a case before Federal District Court (Philadelphia), last summer, to have Obama, DNC and Federal Elections Commission show evidence, in the face of Berg's powerful evidence to the contrary, that Obama is a "Natural Born Citizen." The defendants moved to dismiss, but the judge denied the motion (9/29) and seemed to think Berg's documented evidence, that Obama was born in Kenya and then naturalized into Indonesia, was powerful enough to order defendants to produce verified documentation to support Obama's "Natural Born" claim and status. The judge ordered defendants to produce a birth certificate verified by Hawaii, which seems to be a problem, as well as other documents. On 10/6/2008, defendants filed for protection until they can argue it out. They filed for relief in DC and several levels of government agencies.

"On 10/7/2008, a Psychiatrist Dr. Bradley filed a motion to intervene on Berg's behalf. The "friend of the Court" [amicus brief] asked to be placed in the records as 'Jane Doe,' citing professional and family reasons. She presented documentation from Obama's grandmother, stepbrother and stepsister that Obama was born in Kenyaand, after birth, was rushed to Hawaii to fraudulently file for birth certification. She further documented that Obama's Indonesian step sister was also rushed to Hawaii for US certification after her birth.

"Further, Bradley produced documentation that Obama had Indonesian citizenship under the name of Barry Soetoro. He also had an Indonesian passport up to and beyond age 18. After moving in with his Grandmother in Hawaii he did not 'naturalize,' as would be required. Bradley's motion is that Obama is actually an illegal alien. 10/9/2008: In response to defendants' request for evasion and continued secrecy, Berg filed a summary motion for a speedy trial date ... against BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA (his post Pakistan trip name), a/k/a BARRY SOETORO (his Indonesian name), a/k/a, BARRY OBAMA (his American nickname), a/k/a, and BARACK DUNHAM (another formerly used name)."

Obama has claimed at various times to have been born at either Queens Medical Center or Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Public records do not show any record of his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham (Obama) giving birth to anyone in either place. There is no record of Obama being a naturalized US. Citizen. Thus, the court must rule by default judgment that Obama was born in the Coast Province Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya, as per evidence present by Mr. Berg and that he is not a US citizen.

But, the court is stalling. According to the Philidelphia Daily News, "Mike Finney, deputy clerk to Judge Surrick, says that their office has gotten a blizzard of phone calls about the suit. 'Within the past week the calls have instensified,' Finney told us. 'People from all across the country have been calling.' He said we should expect a ruling soon. We'll see. I suspect the judge will either grant a further delay to produce evidence or will find some other technical excuse to stall. Default of a court order is an open and shut cause for affirming the case. The judge is obviously consulting with the PTB on how to get out of this predicament without declaring Obama's candidacy illegal. This is further evidence that the judicial branch of the US is compromised and the Constitution is dead whenever it gets in the way of the establishment agenda.

THE KENYA CONNECTION

Celeste and Loren Davis (missionaries) tell one of my sources about Obama's connection to the Odinga family, "We have been living and working in Kenya for almost twelve years now and know his family (tribe) well. They are the ones who were behind the recent Presidential election chaos here. Thousands of people have been displaced by election violence (over 350,000) and I don't know the last count of the dead. Obama under 'friends of Obama' gave almost a million dollars to the opposition campaign who just happened to be his cousin, Raila Odinga, who is a socialist trained in east Germany. He [Odinga] has been trying to bring Kenya down for years and the last president threw him in prison for trying to subvert this country!"

Thus, it is little wonder that World Net Daily's reporter Jerome Corsi was arrested and subsequently deported in Kenya while attempting to probe Obama's ties there. Kenya obviously expects to see a lot of US assistance from an Obama presidency and is attempting to keep a lid on Obama's Leftist relationships in that country.

"WND author and staff writer Jerome Corsi has arrived in the Kenyan capital to investigate Sen. Barack Obama's ties to the prime minister, Raila Odinga, who was appointed to the position to stop a wave of violence by Muslim supporters. Corsi came at the invitation of Christian missionaries who contend the rise of Islam in the African nation has been spurred by an agreement Odinga signed with Muslim leaders in an effort to win the presidency last December. Odinga lost but now shares power with the Kenyan president to appease Islamic leaders.

"In a chapter of 'The Obama Nation' titled 'Kenya, Odinga, Communism, and Islam,' Corsi says Obama supported the candidacy of Odinga, a Luo tribesman like Obama's father, in the 2007 Kenyan presidential election, opposing current president Mwai Kibaki, a member of Kenya's largest tribe, the Kikuyu. WND previously reported a segment by Chicago's WBBM-TV that documented Obama attacking Kibaki with critical comments during a 2006 Senate 'fact-finding trip' to Kenya.

"The WBBM news team interviewed on camera Kenyan government spokesman Alfred Matua, who accused Obama of meddling inappropriately in Kenyan politics. Odinga continued to consult with Obama by telephone, even in January 2008, while the senator was campaigning in the New Hampshire primary. Odinga, as prime minister, shares the position of Kenyan head-of-state with Kibaki, who retains the title of president."

ECONOMY WORSENS AS RETAIL SALES, CORPORATE PROFITS DECLINE

Treasury Secretary Paulson, relying upon his unlimited powers to bailout any financial sector needed to "promote economic stability," funneled almost $600 billion to the Money Market funds this week. As Bloomberg News noted, "The Federal Reserve will help finance purchases of up to $600 billion in assets from money- market mutual funds roiled by redemptions from investors seeking the safety of government debt. About $500 billion has flowed out of prime money-market funds since August, a central bank official said."

Now, here's the real zinger--note who will be the direct beneficiary of these funds, named as the vehicle to distribute them down the chain (for a profit): "JPMorgan Chase & Co. will run the five special units that will buy certificates of deposit, bank notes and commercial paper with a remaining maturity of 90 days or less. The Fed will lend up to $540 billion to the five funds."

However, none of the establishment bailouts mechanisms thus far have changed the fact that the economy is contracting strongly--and rightly so. As John Browne, Senior Market Strategist, Euro Pacific Capital wrote this week, "While trillions of dollars are being spent on keeping the current, deeply flawed, banking system functioning (and their profligate executives well compensated), nothing is being done or even discussed, that will restore a sustainable balance to the American economy. Their only solutions have been economic stimulus packages that look to prop up spending with hundreds of billions of printing press dollars [highly inflationary]. Economists concede that eventually Americans will need to cut back, spend less, and save more. However, they argue that such measures are best delayed until we have printed our way back to economic health. It sounds absurd, because it is."

The establishment even convinced Warren Buffet to become a chief propagandist for the government in convincing investors to stay invested in the markets. Karen De Coster compares Buffet's compromise of integrity with that of John D. Rockefeller who tried to assure the markets during the 1929 crash: "'Believing that fundamental conditions of the country are sound and that there is nothing in the business situation to warrant the destruction of values that has taken place on the exchanges during the past week, my son and I have for some days been purchasing sound common stocks'~ John D. Rockefeller, October 29th 1929.

"I'll tell you what the real purpose is behind Warren Buffet's recent column in the New York Times. Buffett writes, 'Buy American. I Am.' He goes on to say that Americans should not panic and flee equities, but instead, they should buy them. That's right -- Warren Buffett wants people to buy equity stakes in American companies. Buffett is doing the government's dirty work in trying to calm the fears of the masses. That was the whole purpose of his column. He agreed to become an instrument for the establishment, and when Buffett speaks, people tend to listen. The timing was perfectly executed."

Not even Buffet's reputation could salvage people's inherent distrust of the current markets. I think most investors have finally come to realize that as powerful as the establishment is, fundamentals are finally going to have their say, in spite of continued manipulation. Stocks are down again this week, and pension funds, money market funds, and hedge funds scramble to get out of equities to cover their growing losses.

Chris Puplava, writing for Financialsense.com in his piece "Reaping the Whirlwind" addresses the core issue of why markets will continue to be negative. "The asset bubbles breaking and the credit crisis will soon be mostly behind us, but the effect on the real world of economic output lies, unfortunately for all of us, almost entirely ahead... we have been writing for several quarters that global economic weakness will be substantially worse and will last substantially longer than the official forecasts. We maintain that view even though official forecasts have dropped considerably......I am sure the market does not yet get the full extent of future earnings and economic disappointments, nor does it easily accept how low trend line P/Es [share Price vs. Earnings ratio] are. (Oh yes, I remember now. P/Es should be higher because of much improved stability and better economic management!)

"In fact I believe it will take at least another year for the truly dreary global outlook to be fully appreciated and priced in. Jeremy Grantham (GMO Quarterly Letter, 10/2008) said, 'Last Wednesday came the release of September retail sales, which were downright horrible, and this before the big October market swoon that will certainly weigh on consumer sentiment going forward. For most of this year the weakness in retail sales has been concentrated in housing-related industries and the auto sector, with the only significant strength in retail sales coming from gasoline stations and food & beverage stores. While weakness in retail sales was confined to the two predominant sectors mentioned above, it appears that consumers are indeed retrenching as weakness is spreading to other retail sectors. For example, electronic & appliance stores, as well as clothing & accessory store retail sales showed a negative year-over-year (YOY) rate of
change in September.'"

To accentuate the point, according to BankruptcyData.com, "So far this year, 17 major retailers have filed for bankruptcy reorganization, up from seven in 2007 and six in 2006." This trend will continue to impact the employment sector.

As consumer spending declines, economic growth in China is slowing, up to 9 percent in the third quarter of this year. China blames the weak export market, and the overbuilt real estate market. Insider corruption within the Communist government has also led to many over-leveraged deals being granted to party cronies and their relatives, which are now starting to default. Chinese banks are also over-leveraged in the global markets.

Leave it to the compromising Europeans to throw China another bone as part of its globalist plan to "save the world." European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso this Thursday said, "China should have more say in international financial institutions, but also urged Beijing to play its part in helping to resolve the global financial crisis...We need a coordinated global response to reform the global financial system. We are living in unprecedented times, and we need unprecedented levels of global coordination."

One of the biggest side-effects of declining Asian exports is the growing glut of commercial shipping assets. As Chris Stewart reports from Thailand, "The stunning growth at China's shipbuilders, shipping lines and ports over the past few years is shuddering to a halt as cash-strapped US consumers cut demand for Chinese goods and banks balk at lending to potential customers. The drop-off in international trade and future outlook has helped to drive down shares in China Cosco Holdings, the world's top transporter of resources, almost 90% in the past 12 months, dropping faster than even the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, itself down 66% this year. The global economic slowdown will push some shipping lines into bankruptcy."

The financial downturn has finally hit Latin America as well--which always reacts with draconian socialist measures. Jack Chang of McClatchy Newspapers reports: "Latin American leaders often boasted that their economies were models of stability in an otherwise tumultuous global landscape. Such confidence gave way, however, to panic this week, as the effects of the U.S. credit crunch and an international downturn wreak havoc on Latin America's formerly booming economies. On Wednesday, Brazilian officials stoked investor fears by allowing the country's two biggest state banks, Banco do Brasil and Caixa Economica Federal, to buy stakes in private financial firms. Many of the country's largest banks have seen their stock prices plummet, while smaller banks have been strangled by the global credit freeze.

"Just a day earlier, Argentina's government shocked the financial world by announcing it planned to nationalize the country's private pension system, which holds about $30 billion in assets, a move that conjured memories of the country's 2001 economic collapse [which confiscated private dollars in Argentine bank accounts]. Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said the nationalization was designed to protect people's pensions from market fluctuations. Most economists, however, read the action as a desperate bid to stave off government loan default in the face of diminishing tax revenues."

Here at home, the mortgage crisis is still with us because of the increasing number of people whose mortgage exceeds the underlying value of the home (termed "underwater mortgages")--meaning they can't sell and recoup enough value to clear the mortgage, forcing a default if they can't make the payments. Reuters notes that "Under water mortgages are a growing threat to the US. About 12 million U.S. homeowners owe more than their homes are worth, compared with 6.6 million at the end of last year and slightly more than 3 million at the close of 2006", said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com. 'At the root it's 'the' problem,' said Zandi. 'If you're going to put your finger on the one thing that's gotten us into this fiasco, it's the fact that millions of homeowners are under water on their homes.'" Of course, as long as they can still make the payments they are OK. As soon as these people's income drops below the amount necessary to pay
the mortgage, foreclosure looms.

With all the trillions of dollars being created, one has to ask, why is the dollar actually rising, when it should be falling? Ambrose Evans-Pritchard writing for the UK Telegraph explains that the "process has reversed abruptly as debt deflation - or 'deleveraging' - engulfs world markets. The dollars must be repaid." What he means is that as the dollar denominated debt is liquidated and derivative insurance is paid off, this causes a huge demand to buy dollars in the markets for the deleveraging. Steven Jen of Morgan Stanley also added that, "US mutual funds, pension funds, and life insurers invested a big chunk of their $22 trillion (£13.5 trillion) of assets overseas to earn a higher yield during the boom. They are now in hot retreat as the emerging market story unravels. People are bringing their money back home."

As I have said in prior weeks, it's also because the other world currencies are showing even greater weakness. All nations are having to bail out their banks and support their currencies, but global investors and currency traders see that despite the horrible inflation of the dollar, only America has the depth of resources and the economy to turn around this collapse--thus they are bullish on the dollar.

WHY THEN IS GOLD DROPPING?

Gold is the ultimate backup currency, along with silver. Both continue to drop, at least in the paper markets--and therein lies the rub: the paper markets don't represent real demand. The Small-business-goldmine.com newsletter had one of the best explanations: "Why is gold dropping right now when anyone in their sane mind would expect it to rise? The simple answer to this question is, 'because Comex-gold isn't gold' -- and because it deceptively pretends to be 'the' price-setter for real gold. Gold is gold, paper is paper, and 'Comex gold' is nothing but paper masquerading as gold while simultaneously pretending to be the price-setting medium for actual gold in the world. Now, finally, Comex-gold is in the process of being unmasked.

"The real supply and demand determinants for Comex gold are not actual gold investors but fund managers. Fund managers are inextricably intertwined with the world of contract-based credit instruments. They use bets on Comex gold contracts to hedge their other (currently horrendously losing) bets with something they all, in their in-bred belief in paper markets, believe will 'go up' in value while everything else is going down. However, these very same fund managers and their paper-bound investment psychology are the exclusive reason why Comex gold is dropping in these times when everyone (including fund managers) expects gold to rise."

The writer is correct. Howard Katz also adds that, "the stock decline is important for gold bugs because traders under pressure from margin calls on their regular stocks are meeting these margin calls by selling their gold stocks. This is why the gold stocks have badly underperformed the metal over the past month."

Another major reason why the paper price of gold is being driven down is that central banks sell gold on the open market, and buy back through private markets that are not part of the public record--hence appearing to have an endless supply to sell, without allowing their buy backs to influence the price. Anyone who tries to buy physical gold will have to pay a huge premium over the spot price--if you can even find the gold to buy. This huge disparity between supply and demand in physical gold is telling of manipulation.

WHO'S TO BLAME?

Even though government is looked to as the savior of last resort, it is the primary cause of this entire collapse due to excessive money creation-the engine of every bubble. But Credit-Rating Companies were in collusion with investment banks who packaged and sold toxic mortgages to investors and banks around the world. As Bloomberg reported, "Employees at Moody's Investors Service told executives that issuing dubious creditworthy ratings to mortgage-backed securities made it appear they were incompetent or 'sold our soul to the devil for revenue,' according to e-mails obtained by U.S. House investigators.

"The e-mail was one of several documents made public today at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in Washington, which is reviewing the role played by Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings in the global credit freeze. 'The story of the credit rating agencies is a story of colossal failure,'' Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, said at the hearing... The Securities and Exchange Commission in a July report found the credit-rating companies improperly managed conflicts of interest and violated internal procedures in granting top rankings to mortgage bonds. THE NEW BAILOUT FEVER AND HOW IT WILL DISTORT THE MARKETS

The increasing trend of the US Treasury to guarantee all bank loans is a recipe for more future banking disasters. Removing risk may seem prudent in a collapse where risk went bad, but keeping investors liable for risk is essential to avoiding the excesses of speculation, and forcing an economy to grow slowly, with more stability.

Michael S. Rozeff writes how "In a recent article, I explained that capital flees from government's taxes and regulation. The other side of the coin is that capital is attracted by government's subsidies [and bailouts]. The attraction of capital to activities that are being subsidized diverts production and employment into activities where they would not otherwise have gone had people been left free to decide the allocation of capital. This redirection of capital invariably lowers social welfare.

"Examples abound because subsidies take many, many forms. The government subsidizes leisure and penalizes work using welfare and unemployment benefits. (Human capital is attracted into these programs.) It subsidizes visits to doctors and hospitals with Medicare and Medicaid programs. It subsidizes alternative fuels, space flights, and the production of weapons of mass destruction, thereby attracting human and physical capital into the associated industries. It subsidizes wars, attracting human and physical capital into destructive activities. The list goes on and on because government is big, and government's main tool of social control is the subsidy.

"Government subsidizes not only the production of certain items but also their financing. It shoots with a double-barreled shotgun. Government subsidizes loans. It often sees to it that there are low-interest loans available for selected activities such as making autos, attending college, agriculture, home buying, and so on. The list is very long. The Federal Reserve, which is an arm of government, subsidizes the banking system. When the Fed buys bonds (or anything else), it provides banks with reserves that cost them nothing but which provide them the capability of making loans at interest. The system subsidizes bank lending and thus credit creation across the nation. This undermines other ways and means of channeling capital to borrowers, including capital markets. Any government subsidy not only lowers social welfare but also creates production and financing imbalances. For this reason, every subsidy carries within it the seed of dislocations and
unemployment. When subsidies ebb or are removed, the capital that has been unduly attracted to the subsidized activity must seek employment elsewhere.

ISRAEL: OLMERT BETRAYS COUNTRY BEFORE LEAVING

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is the designated replacement PM for the ruling Kadima Party as Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is being forced to step down for corruption. She's having a tough time putting together a coalition government. Olmert's rhetoric and actions as he makes a quick exit (saying Israel may have to withdraw from the West Bank if it wants peace with Palestinians, etc) are making it very tough for Tzipi Livni to convince parties further to the right that Kadima isn't going to sellout Israel's territorial interests.

Ilene R. Prusher of the Christian Science Monitor summarizes: "Virtually on his way out the door from the prime minister's office, Ehud Olmert told Israelis what he really thinks of the future of the peace process. In a sweeping interview with the mass circulation newspaper Yedioth Ahranot, Mr. Olmert said on the eve of the Jewish New Year last week that Israelis are dreaming if they think they can make peace with the Palestinians without paying the price: a withdrawal from most of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights." Many of my readers may not understand how crucial these areas are for Israel's military survival. They not only include a huge portion of Israel's water rights, but also the high ground (Golan Heights) which every enemy in the past has used to shell Israeli towns and villages in the lower valleys.

It's actually worse than what the Monitor describes. The Bush administration has been desperately trying to get the Israelis to codify all the secret concessions Olmert has made with the Palestinians (including ceding control of East Jerusalem and the destruction of most remaining Isreali settlements outside the Green Zone) in a signed document that will bind any future government. These compromises, done without the approval of the Isreali parliament (Knesset), are very dangerous to Israel's survival and will still do nothing to ensure peace (which I don't believe will ever come in this life).

Why give up essential and defensible territory in exchange for peace that will never come? It's part of the globalists' plans to force Israel into a protectorate relationship with the international community. It simply guarantees that when the next Israeli Arab war comes, Israel will be much more vulnerable and perhaps forced to finally accede to UN protection--which always comes at a price in national sovereignty. No country ever regains full sovereignty once "delivered" over to UN "protection." That is why I consistently warn my readers that the Israeli government is not right-wing. It is globalist and always betrays Israel's security interests while playing as if they are right wing.

RUSSIA IN URGENT ARMS BUILDUP

Just as outgoing Israeli PM Olmert goes to Moscow to assure Putin that Israel's role in training Georgian soldiers was not a hostile act aimed at Russia (it was in support of the coming US attack on Iran), Russia turns the knife close to Israel's heart as it readies a new naval base on the Syrian coast. That isn't all.

The Washington Post reported last month on Russia's new and urgent arms build-up. "RUSSIA has announced ambitious plans to enhance its armed forces and nuclear arsenal while extending a $US1 billion loan to Venezuela to buy arms [anti-aircraft systems and armored personnel carriers] and explore the possibility of forming a gas cartel with the Latin American nation. Speaking during a meeting with commanders following military exercises in southern Russia, President Dmitry Medvedev cited the nation's recent war with Georgia in calling for an urgent drive to upgrade Russian military capabilities within 12 years, including the country's ability to deter nuclear attacks. Mr Medvedev pledged to improve pay for soldiers, mass-produce nuclear submarines carrying cruise missiles and build 'an air and space-defence system', according to a statement released by the Kremlin.'

"The Russian Government had previously announced plans to boost military spending 26% next year to a new high in the post-Soviet era... The visit to Russia by Mr Chavez, his second in two months, comes shortly after two Russian bombers made a brief training visit to Venezuela and as Russian warships are sailing to the Caribbean Sea for joint exercises with the Venezuelan navy. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ridiculed the exercises as an outdated attempt by the Kremlin to assert its military power, which only highlighted Russia's increasing isolation in the international community." Sounds like Ms. Rice is whistling in the wind--downplaying something the globalists have eagerly sought to evoke with all their intervention around the world.

BUSH SEEKS HIS LEGACY-BUT IT WON'T BE NICE

One of the reasons Sec. of State Condi Rice has been working so hard to forge a "peace" deal between Israel and the Palestinians is to help George W. Bush leave office with some token success in the foreign policy arena. It won't work. Even if such a deal were signed, it would eventually be shown to be a disaster. Scott Horton of Harpers ends this brief by explaining what the real legacy of Bush will be:

"The last hundred days of any presidency are frequently known as 'legacy time'. So what image will dominate the Bush presidency? The Iraq War? The management of Hurricane Katrina? The meltdown of the financial markets? I believe one issue is likely to shape the historical perception of the Bush 43 presidency: torture. And as Team Bush prepares its spectacular finale, its darkest secrets keep bubbling to the surface.

"Just two weeks ago, Condoleezza Rice's lawyer, John Bellinger, confirmed to Senator Levin that Rice led the discussions at Principals' Committee meetings of the NSC with Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Cheney and others at which specific torture practices were okayed. On Monday, the producers of a new documentary posted a U.S. military memorandum confirming administration authorization of the use of torture techniques as part of the standard operating procedures for prisoners at Guantánamo. And today, the Washington Post drops another bombshell: The Bush Administration issued a pair of secret memos to the CIA in 2003 and 2004 that explicitly endorsed the agency's use of interrogation techniques such as waterboarding against al-Qaeda suspects ---- documents prompted by worries among intelligence officials about a possible backlash if details of the program became public.

"The classified memos, which have not been previously disclosed, were requested by then-CIA Director George J. Tenet more than a year after the start of the secret interrogations, according to four administration and intelligence officials familiar with the documents. Although Justice Department lawyers, beginning in 2002, had signed off on the agency's interrogation methods, senior CIA officials were troubled that White House policymakers had never endorsed the program in writing. These memos were issued to induce the CIA to adopt the harsh techniques over blowback from the agency which questioned whether the White House was prepared to commit in writing to their use.

"First, it appears that a major part of this exercise was to involve the Criminal Division to get an 'estoppel effect.' Policy makers could say they relied on the statements of the Criminal Division in undertaking the use of torture, and therefore the Criminal Division could not prosecute them. Second, the head of the Criminal Division at this time wasMichael Chertoff and his senior deputy, who succeeded him, was Alice Fisher. Chertoff, appearing in connection with his appointment as Homeland Security secretary, brushed off accounts linking him to the introduction of the torture techniques. His testimony has been challenged repeatedly, and the new report is likely to fuel arguments that he misled Congress. Fisher likewise seems to be drawn ever-closer to the torture issue. Chertoff and Fisher appeared to have headed off a criminal investigation that the FBI launched into the introduction of torture practices at Guantánamo. And the
current report appears to link them to the decision to introduce torture, suggesting that the criminal investigation may have come back to a focus on their own conduct.

"Clearly, in the Bush years the term 'Criminal Division' took on a whole new meaning. In the meantime, expect much more to float to the surface before January 21, 2009 comes around. People may find some very interesting documents as they clean off their desks. Hopefully they'll realize their responsibility to share them with the rest of us."

Horton's compatriot at Harpers, Glen Greenwald, added more in a recent interview with other experts: "We've known for quite some time that various aspects of the CIA and to some extent, a much less informal extent, of the US military, were subjecting detainees in our custody to all kinds of methods that have clearly been defined for a long time and clearly are torture, which really come out much more so over the past, say, 6-12 months, is very conclusive evidence that those methods were explicitly approved at the highest levels.... Part of the push-back that came, both from the military and the intelligence officers, was them saying, we don't want to get scapegoated in this. We know what's going to happen, a new administration's going to come in to Washington, and they're going to do things differently; you're not to scapegoat us for this. If you want this done, you're going to formally approve it. So there was very serious, adamant insistence that
this was going to be approved at the highest level of the administration, and indeed it was.

"In fact, John Bellinger, the lawyer for Condoleezza Rice, confirmed the ABC News report, whereby we know, in a handful of cases in which the most extreme techniques were used, there was a proposal written up; it was approved all the way up the hierarchy at the CIA, then it went to the White House and the National Security Council, and there was a principals' meeting - the principals' committee is all the members of the National Security Council save the president - there was a principals' meeting, at which actual torture techniques being applied to actual individual prisoners were discussed and approved, and this is, one of these sessions, John Ashcroft was reported to have said, in classic words of understatement, 'history will not look kindly on this.'"

Why were no objections raised? Why were there no oversight hearings in any of this? Greenwald responds that "Jane Mayer in her book, The Dark Side, suggested one of the reasons that Democrats in Congress were so reluctant to investigate these matters - and in fact they aren't only not investigating, but they're stifling an investigation, they're passing laws to immunize prior law-breaking and doing everything they can to conceal what it is that occurred - her suggestion was that the reason that they're so motivated to avoid having all of this come to light is because they're petrified that their own vital role in enabling it all will come to light along with it, led by people like Jay Rockefeller and Jane Harman and even Nancy Pelosi and some of these key leaders in the Democratic leaders who were briefed in Congress." I subscribed to her weekly news letter a few years back to see what she was like and found out she is so Progressive she might as well move to San Fransisco. Whos to Blame for Oil Prices

Why is it that the news keeps talking about oil as though our biggest problem is its increased value? They never mention how the problem is not that oil is valued more then it ever has been. The problem is that the Federal Reserve Corporation is simply devaluing the federal note that we use as a currency and the world uses as Reserves. Ron Paul made the point that if you wanted to buy oil with silver one ounce of silver would buy just as much oil today as it would fifty years ago. And since gold and silver have been the most stable currency in the history of currencies this shows that the price of oil is not going up but the Reserve Notes we call the US dollar is loosing its purchasing power.

So my questions are why are the people who are supposed to know about economics not telling Big Media about it and if Big Media told people about it would people trust the Government and the Federal Reserve Corporation less the Big Oil? Maybe if the people understood some simple economics they would know that the privately owned Federal Reserve Corporation has been steeling from the American people for almost one hundred years.

All the rhododendrons are blossoming now so we figured it would be a perfect time to take Savannah to Rhododendron Park. Its near the north shore of Lake Washington.

There were some blossoms larger then Savannah's head but when we tried to take some pictures next to her she did not feel like participating.

Savannah wasn't wanting to look at any of the flowers because all she wanted to do was be pushed on the swing which wouldn't be bad except the sun was very hot that morning.

Bob Barr Nomination Speech

I saw Mike Gravel and Wayne Allen Root debate each other and was very impressed how they were the first politicians to have a good debate about there ideas. I loved to see them give each other complements on ideas they both shared and was glad to see them pick apart ideas in constructive ways. Hopefully the debates during the convention were recorded so they can find their way to the internet where we can all see how much better the Libertarian are then the two monopoly parties.

At the end of the video it seems like some in the crowd start chanting Ron Paul. This must be because Ron Paul supposedly gave a nod to Bob Barr. I have never seen where he gave the nod but it would make sense because they worked together a lot in Bob Barr's last few years in the Senate.

There is one difference between Bush and Obama. Bush usually knows when he has screwed up because he will laugh about it after words. I don't think Obama even noticed that stuck his whole leg into his mouth.

Will a Lesser of Two Evils Fix the Country?

As long as I have been paying aware of politics most people have always thought it was better to vote for the lesser of two evils then to vote for the best person, but will a lesser of two evils ever improve the state of the union? Probably not, and considering that most people have voted for the lesser of two evils for as long as I can remember I must say that it can make the state of the union much worse. So why will a majority of Americans vote for a person liked by only twenty percent?

Judging from the past twenty years a lesser evil is still evil and will not be good for our union. When will we as a people start voting for people we actually approve?

Will Libertarians take Votes From McCain

They'll take mine. I hear and read about all these political analysts about whether or not libertarians will take votes from the Republican party and I think the Republicans answered that question then they showed very clearly that any Conservative who supported Ron Paul is not welcome in the party if they do not get in line and march.
I read about state Republican conventions all over the country where the party tries to strong arm the Ron Paul Republicans. The biggest one I heard about was in Nevada where the Republican leaders actually closed the meeting because most of the delegates had supported Ron Paul wanted to elect Ron Paul supporters to the national convention.
The two parties always give the impression that each election is too important to vote for a third party, but I don't think any election is to important to vote for a candidate who shares your same principles. I will never vote for a lesser of two evils again.

I can see why people in the Government like Ted Kennedy wanted the Federal Government to get involved in the internet more and more. Politicians are not safe from themselves any more. Paris Hilton would be better at keeping her story straight then the people who are in positions of power in our government. As soon as the majority of voters start getting their political news online the elections will get a whole lot more simple for voters, but not for politicians. They will need to start standing for something or everyone will start to see that they stand for nothing.
